The Small Farm Institute Program
The Small Farm Institute is a program of the MarylandCooperative Extension serving small-scale family-owned and ormanaged farm producers. The 
program seeks to improve theprofitability and enhance the viability of small farm operators.The Small Farm Institute provides production systems, farmmanagement, marketing, and outreach educational programs to smallfarmers and agricultural entrepreneurs.
Our audience is diverse in culture and farming operations.Beside traditional small agricultural producers, we serve smallfarmers not reached by traditional extension programs, includingbeginning farmers, new immigrant farmers, limited-resource farmers,minority farmers and agricultural entrepreneurs.
The Small Farm Institute develops alternative enterprises andestablishes new market outlets and strategies for small farmers bystimulating research and extension educational programs. We partnerwith several departments across College Park and Eastern Shorecampuses as well as agencies and non-government organizationsnationally and internationally.
