None of us exists in a vacuum. Whether we live on our own or with an extended family encompassing several generations, we all are affected by â€“ and have an impact on â€“ others. Learning the interpersonal, communications, financial, and other skills needed to interact successfully with others and achieve our personal goals can be a challenge. But take heart. Family Services Center
The Family Service Center is the marriage and family therapy clinic housed in the Department of Family Studies. The Center provides family therapy to residents of surrounding communities, training for the Department's clinical graduate students, and a site for clinical research.
Child Care and After School Programs
We offer training opportunities and on site programs for the Maryland professional child care/after school community and information and resources to families in their search for high quality care and education for their young children and children before and after school.

The Engaged University
The Engaged University (EU) creates opportunities for the university and its surrounding communities to engage in mutually beneficial research, learning and social action. Its goal is to improve the quality of life in the diverse inner-beltway communities that surround UMâ€™s College Park campus. EUâ€™s activities are designed to create a more environmentally sound, inclusive and sustainable local economy with quality schools and youth development services, thriving small businesses, affordable and adequate housing, viable cultural, economic and social institutions, numerous community gardens, healthy and reliable food, accessible technology resources, and trustworthy money management and credit providers. EU creates opportunities for collaboration that improve the areaâ€™s socio-economic conditions, build upon existing community strengths, enable residents to actively participate in the life of their schools and community organizations, and foster positive images and media portrayals of the University and the County. The Engaged University also administers the Community Partners Program that fund s new community-university partnerships.

MCE State Strengthing Program
Center for Agro Security and Emergency Management
CAEM is a collaborative effort between AGNR and the MDA to coordinate communication and education efforts for the agricultural community to insure the agricultural and food security of the state and the nation.
Walk Across Maryland
Walk Across Maryland is a walking promotion program of the University of Maryland Cooperative Extension to encourage youth and adults to walk at least 600 miles, the equivalent of walking across Maryland from Cumberland to Crisfield and back again. This eight-week program can be initiated in the classroom or individually through this interactive website which allows walkers to track their progress on a virtual 600-mile walk across the scenic state of Maryland.
