Reports of Greenbug aphids in winter wheat are coming from certain pockets of the county. During feeding aphids inject toxic saliva into the plants, causing discoloration and tissue destruction.
Scout your fields for symptoms to identify and prevent further spread of this insect.
When surveying for aphids in small grains, make several counts throughout the field counting at least 100 stems/field. Economic threshold of greenbug aphid is 12-15/stem - seedling to boot stage. For non seed treated cereals an insecticide treatment can be applied after assessing the infestations and if felt necessary.
