Highlights of Dorchester County Extension Agriculture Program
There are 114,800 total crop acres in Dorchester County including: soybeans, wheat, barley, corn, sorghum, fruit and vegetable crops, as well as the production of around 25,000,000 chickens from just over 100 poultry operators. There is some hog and beef production as well.
Extension serves to help farmers manage the vast array of production and marketing issues. Agent consults with university specialists on problems and issues that confront agriculture ranging from legislative to production issues and brings these specialists to the county when appropriate to share their knowledge and expertise.
