Maryland law requires nutrient management plans for agricultural operations with a minimum gross income of $2,500 and/or 8 animal units (1 animal unit = 1,000 lbs.). Using soil test results, yield goals, and estimates of residual nitrogen, these plans provide field‑specific recommendations that help maximize farm profitability while reducing environmental impacts on the Chesapeake Bay.
The University of Maryland Extension develops nutrient management plans for agricultural producers located in Montgomery County, Maryland.
