Master Gardener

The Bates Middle School campus is home to a large native reflection garden in front of the school as well as several smaller native shrub and perennial mixed pollinator gardens and borders.

Since 2000, Bay-Wise committee members have taught Anne Arundel residents how better water quality can be achieved through smarter gardening. Our committee, comprised of Master Gardeners, focuses attention to the education of Anne Arundel County residents on gardening practices that protect the Chesapeake Bay and its watershed. We are working to create a community of sustainable gardeners.

The goal of the Master Gardener project at Tawes is to promote sustainable and environmentally healthy gardening practices while educating the public about the advantages of planting native Maryland and pollinator-friendly plants. One of our key areas of interest is the identification and removal of invasive species.

Arnold Youth Garden is an Anne Arundel County Master Gardener approved project that provides education to the school community on conservation landscaping, native gardening, and mindfulness in nature. 

Anne Arundel County Master Gardener project, the Apprentice Garden is a hands-on educational program to teach families about organic vegetable gardening in an environmentally safe and sustainable manner.
