For those who own multiple acres of forestland in Maryland:

Considering a timber harvest on your property? Now you can Call Before You Cut!

Your woodlands are important. They are a valuable resource for your family’s enjoyment and their future, and for the environment. The University of Maryland Extension now participates in the “Call Before You Cut” program. The program provides Maryland woodland owners with free information to ensure that they harvest their timber in the most efficient, cost-effective, and ecologically-sound manner possible.

Resources include tips on how to begin researching your harvest, where to go for expert help, and the program’s partners.  Interested woodland owners can obtain by mail an information packet that includes Maryland-specific resources. Landowners will learn about how a professional forester can assist with the harvest, the different types of licensed foresters in Maryland, as well as sources for more information.

For those who have multiple trees in a residential yard:

The “Call Before You Cut” materials are designed to assist people who own multiple acres of forestland. If you have trees in your yard in a residential area, University of Maryland Extension recommends that you call a certified arborist (those who specialize in tree health) or a Maryland-Licensed Tree Expert (those who specialize in removing trees in residential areas.)
