Calvert County Demonstration Gardens

Are you interested in going native with your landscaping?

Come visit and take a stroll through the gardens surrounding the Community Resources Building. Visit our native plant displays throughout the year to learn about our Chesapeake Bay-friendly landscapes.

These gardens have been Bay-Wise certified to demonstrate storm water runoff control, pollinator and wildlife support, and planting wisely while adding beauty to downtown Prince Frederick.

What is in the Garden?

The garden was established over 12 years ago, created, planted, and maintained by Master Gardeners and Interns, and highlights native plants that can be found in Calvert County and the surrounding area- showing how native plants can be used in a home garden.

Includes several different types of garden beds with different challenges:

• Pollinator paradise – hot, dry, full sun strip along driveway
• Sensory garden – plants for all the senses
• Tiered garden – established to help control stormwater runoff from the parking lot
• Meadow garden
• Dry, sunny, slope beds in front of the building
• Shady, wet beds behind the building
• Grass demonstration garden on the side of the building
