Environment & Natural Resources Programs in Queen Anne's County

UME's Environmental and Natural Resources (ENR) program provides research-based education and technical assistance to help individuals, communities, and organizations conserve and manage Maryland's natural resources. Programs focus on protecting water quality, supporting healthy ecosystems, promoting sustainable landscapes, and increasing resilience to environmental challenges.

In Prince George's County, UMD Extension staff offer a variety of exciting programs in the field of Environment and Natural Resources, including home gardening, nutrient management, and more.  ENR programs are offered through workshops, demonstrations, community partnerships, volunteer programs, and technical resources. Queen Anne's County Environment & Natural Resource Programs

Grow It Eat It

The University of Maryland Extension (UME) Grow It Eat It (GIEI) Program promotes backyard and community food production. Since 2009, Master Gardeners have taught classes/workshops, developed demonstration gardens, and educated Marylanders on how to produce their own affordable and healthy food while using sustainable gardening practices in their home, community, and school gardens.

The Queen Anne's County Master Gardeners host vegetable gardening classes at the Galilee Lutheran Church (1934 Harbor Dr., Chester, MD) on the first Thursday of every month at 7 p.m. All classes are free and open to the public.

Master Gardener Program

The University of Maryland Extension Master Gardener Program educates Maryland residents on safe, effective, and sustainable horticultural practices that build healthy gardens, landscapes, and communities. Master Gardeners serve as volunteer horticultural educators.

Bay-Wise Program

The Bay-Wise Living Landscapes Program is a science-based, peer education program conducted by the University of Maryland Extension (UME) that teaches Marylanders sustainable landscape and garden practices that promote clean water, healthy soil, native biodiversity, and climate-resilient communities through our statewide Master Gardener program.
