The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) provides free nutrition‑education classes to food‑insecure and limited‑resource families and youth in Montgomery County. EFNEP uses a hands‑on approach to teach participants how to improve their diet, manage food resources, practice food safety, and understand general nutrition principles.
What Participants Learn
EFNEP educators provide practical tips and tools on:
- Choosing more nutritious snacks and beverages for children
- Planning and preparing healthy meals
- Handling and storing foods safely
- Preparing new foods and recipes
- Comparing prices and saving on food costs
- Fun ways to increase physical activity in children
EFNEP workshops are taught as a series of 5–6 classes over several weeks.
To reach individuals who will benefit most, EFNEP partners with schools, community centers, clinics, health and wellness centers, non‑profit and faith‑based organizations, and food‑distribution sites across Montgomery County.
