Head, Heart, Hands, and Health are the four Hs in 4‑H. These values guide the programs that help young people learn, grow, and contribute to their communities. Through life‑changing 4‑H experiences, nearly six million young people nationwide have taken on important issues such as community health inequities, civil discourse, and advocacy for equity and inclusion.
4‑H is the largest national positive youth development organization and is delivered in Maryland by the University of Maryland Extension. Our goal is to help children ages 5–18 reach their full potential by giving them opportunities to explore their interests, learn new skills, contribute to their communities, and discover where they belong.
4‑H members in Montgomery County are leading positive change in communities across the country. Local programs offer opportunities in agriculture, STEM, sewing and fashion, public speaking, community service, the county fair, camp, and hands‑on workshops.
In 4‑H, we believe in the power of young people. Every child has strengths, talents, and the ability to make a meaningful difference. 4‑H values diversity and supports the inclusion of all youth, regardless of background or identity.
